Explanation of his saying: (And you took the tails of the cows, and you were content with the crops, and you left off jihad in the path of Allah).

The Shaykh : Then he said: , this is a very subtle allusion meaning that if the Muslims are occupied with crops, milk, and taking the tails of the cows from performing what Allah has made obligatory upon them of their religion, ; that is: you settled for the world in its various forms and types; what will be the result? And what will be the punishment? Justice from Allah - Mighty and Majestic - , pardon, then he - peace be upon him - said: to the end of the hadith.
Also, this is a general phenomenon in the Islamic lands; and it is their consensus - with great regret - to leave off jihad in the path of Allah - Blessed and Exalted is He -; and from ... that the intended meaning of this hadith is not this obligatory individual obligation (fard 'ayn) jihad in this time, but rather the collective obligation (fard kifayah) jihad which, if some people perform it, it drops off the rest. If the Muslims leave off jihad in the path of Allah and garrisoning the borders to repel the harm of the enemies, if they leave off this jihad which is a collective obligation, the outcome will be that Allah - Blessed and Exalted is He - will humiliate them; so what do we say today when occupation has surrounded the Muslims in some of their lands and cut them off from the rest of the Muslim lands, and the Muslims are still clinging to the world and rushing after it?! That has led them to leave off the jihad which is an individual obligation and not a collective obligation; because the scholars of the Muslims agreed that if some of the Islamic lands are attacked by the disbelievers, it becomes obligatory upon all the Muslims to mobilize entirely to repel the attack of that enemy; so what is the matter with us today when this Palestine has been occupied, and we continue to pretend that we are doing jihad and we are not doing jihad?! And this is followed by Afghanistan, likewise the same story that is repeated in Palestine today is repeated in Afghanistan, and the Muslims are heedless and distracted.
