A delicate issue regarding riba.

The student : May Allah reward you with good, my master. I opened an office for cashing vehicle checks from Aqaba. I take forty dinars for each check. The check is valid for fifty days until I cash it. Does any sin attach to me in this transaction, or not?

The student : A check, my master. It is a cargo that the vehicle carries from Aqaba to Baghdad. So the owner of this check...

The Shaykh : Do you mean the owner of the check, the passenger?
The student : The owner of the check who carries the cargo. These are large vehicles that carry from Aqaba to Baghdad. The company gives him a check for this amount, valid for fifty days. So, as the owner of the office, the vehicle owner comes to me to cash it for forty dinars, so that I wait for fifty days.

The Shaykh : So you pay him the value of the check?
The student : Yes, the value of the check.

The Shaykh : And you take forty dinars on the five hundred dinars, which I estimate is a period of one month or fifty days.

The Shaykh : This is riba itself, and it is not permissible at all.
The student : It is not permissible at all?

The Shaykh : It is not permissible at all.
