Delaying the Performance of Work

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: I work at the post office, and my working hours are from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM. However, I am unable to work the evening hour because my residence is far from the office, and I have other activities I engage in during the evening. Therefore, I do not attend the office in the evening, and the supervisor is aware of this, but I do not know whether he is satisfied with me or not. Is this permissible while I receive my full salary? Please advise us; may Allah reward you.

Answer: It is well known that an employee or a hired worker for a specific job must perform that job with fidelity and completeness, and he is not entitled to the wage except by performing the work for which he was hired.
What the questioner mentioned about delaying the performance of work and missing some of the time for his personal affairs is something that is not permissible for him. What he takes from his salary in exchange for this time in which he did not work is not lawful for him, and it is forbidden earnings because he took it without right. Even if the direct supervisor or the direct manager forgives him, as long as the general regulations do not allow him to do so, that does not justify his delay in work, because his work during this period has been earned and consumed for the position, so it is not permissible for him to delay without a valid religious excuse that permits it.
The questioner mentioned that he is occupied with some of his personal affairs and that he misses some of the time in them. This is not permissible, and whoever is entrusted with a job must devote himself to it and perform it in the best possible way so that his earnings are lawful and what he takes from the wage or salary is taken with entitlement and permission from the Lawgiver.
