The questioner : It is said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged killing the lizard, and that whoever kills it the first time will be granted one hundred good deeds. What is the ruling on killing the lizard, and what is the ruling on killing frogs?
The Shaykh : As for killing the lizard, it is a recommended practice (sunnah) and carries great reward. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) informed us that it used to blow fire onto Ibrahim (Abraham) when he was thrown into it. Furthermore, it is harmful and causes annoyance with its ugly, disliked sounds.
As for frogs, they should not be killed unless they cause harm. If they do cause harm, there is no harm in killing them, because every harmful creature is to be killed, as the jurists (may Allah have mercy on them) said: it is recommended to kill every harmful creature. Yes.
The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
