As we know, the sacrificial animal is divided into three parts: one-third is given as charity, one-third is sent as a gift, and one-third is for the family of the deceased. However, I have nine cousins, and each of them performs his own sacrifice in the kitchen and serves it to all the brothers without giving a third as charity or sending a third as a gift.

The questioner : This is a questioner for the program who sent two questions. The first question says: “Your Eminence, as we know, the sacrificial animal is distributed into three parts: one-third is given as charity, one-third is sent as a gift, and one-third is for the family of the deceased. However, I have nine cousins, and each of them performs his own sacrifice in the kitchen and serves it to all the brothers without giving a third as charity or sending a third as a gift. Is this permissible?”

The Shaykh : Giving one-third of the sacrificial animal as charity is not obligatory. You may eat the entire sacrificial animal except for a small amount that you give as charity, and you may eat the rest. However, it is better to give charity, send gifts, and eat. Also, sending gifts and giving charity should be done with raw meat, not cooked meat. This is easy, and praise be to Allah. If it is the day of the festival and you have sacrificed, send what is possible to the poor, and send what is possible to your neighbors and friends, and eat the rest, whether you eat it on the day of the festival, on the day of the festival and the days of Tashreeq, or save it for a longer period. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
