The Shaykh: I tell you, welcome to Muhammad

The questioner: A question, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh : Bring it.

The questioner : It is known that a man is not permitted to work in riba-based banks, but there is a problem: does he stay in his job and look for another job, or does he abandon his unlawful job and remain looking for another job, knowing that there is a severe unemployment crisis in our country, namely Algeria, with high unemployment, knowing that he is responsible for his mother and his brothers and he is about to get married. Your answer, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : If he knows that his work is contrary to the Shari'ah, it is obligatory for him to immediately repent to his Lord and to ask Him, the Exalted, to grant him success in work that pleases Him, because a person is not permitted to seek the provision destined for him through what is forbidden. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once admonished his Companions and said:
Indeed, no soul will die until it completes its provision and its term, so be beautiful in your seeking, for what is with Allah is not attained through what is forbidden إنّ نفسا لن تموت حتّى تستكمل رزقها و أجلها فأجملوا في الطّلب فإنّ ما عند الله لا ينال بالحرام
Did you hear the answer?

The questioner : Yes, my Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Fine. What else do you have?

The questioner : Does he leave his job immediately, or does he stay out of necessity, as he is responsible for his family?

The Shaykh : Did you not get the answer to your question?

The questioner : But O Shaykh, I did not understand the question.

The Shaykh : How did you not understand, my brother? I told you to leave the forbidden work immediately.

The questioner : Immediately.

The Shaykh : Immediately, for what is with Allah of provision is not attained through what is forbidden. I read the hadith to your ears, how do you say you did not understand?!

The questioner : He is very poor, he is responsible for his mother and his brothers.

The Shaykh : May Allah guide you. Yes.
