What is the ruling on the prostration of recitation in the first rak'ah of the Fajr prayer every Friday night, and is there anything reported regarding it in the Sunnah, and what is the ruling on one who persists in it and one who leaves it?

The questioner : The questioner asks: What is the ruling on the prostration of recitation in the first rak'ah of the Fajr prayer every Friday night, and is there anything reported regarding it in the Sunnah, and what is the ruling on one who persists in it and one who leaves it? I have noticed that some mosques persist in it regularly, while other mosques leave it out entirely. May you be rewarded.

The Shaykh : Reading the prostration surah, meaning Surat al-Sajdah, in the first rak'ah of Fajr on Friday, and did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) have a recommended practice established in the second rak'ah? It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and reported that he used to persist in doing so. Therefore, the imam should maintain the reading of these two surahs in the Fajr prayer on Friday, due to the saying of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He):
There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent pattern for anyone whose hope is in Allah and the Last Day and [who] remembers Allah often.
[Al-Ahzab 33:21]
And if he sometimes leaves off reading them, there is nothing wrong with it, because reading them is not obligatory. What is obligatory to read in the prayer is Surat al-Fatihah, and what is other than that is a recommended practice in its place. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
