Is it permissible for women to sing at celebrations and play the hand drum?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : I want to ask you about singing for women; is it permissible for women to sing and play the hand drum at celebrations?

The Shaykh : Sing what?

The questioner : With Islamic songs.

The Shaykh : There are no Islamic songs.

The questioner : Is there no specific singing for Islam?

The Shaykh : There is nothing except what came from the Salaf (the earliest generations); as for these modern songs, they contain lewdness and are composed in the style of lewd songs.

The questioner : The songs we sing contain the remembrance of Allah and the remembrance of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

The Shaykh : May Allah guide you; give an example?

The questioner : Give an example?

The questioner : Yes.
But when we were in Saudi ArabiaThe Shaykh : [Shaykh] Salih ibn Uthaymeen, and we explained to him and wrote down for him the songs... the ones we used to sing at celebrations, he told me: It is permissible in this case; singing with these songs is permissible.

The Shaykh : You—may Allah guide you—I am asking you and you are distracting me!

The questioner : Men are permitted to sing.

The Shaykh : Yes, this is a long matter!
