Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The questioner from Kuwait says: The women in our area are accustomed to wearing the black abaya during mourning, including the family members. Is this considered wearing black, meaning is it considered wailing, knowing that this is a prevalent custom in our area?

The Shaykh : Any appearance that displays grief and dissatisfaction with the divine decree and destiny of Allah is forbidden, because it is obligatory for a person to be pleased with the decree and destiny of Allah and to be patient with calamities, so that he may be among the patient ones about whom Allah said:
but give good tidings to the patient, (156) Who, when disaster strikes them, say, "Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return." (157) Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the [rightly] guided.
[Al-Baqarah 2:155-157]
If the wearing of black indicates dissatisfaction and lack of patience, then it is haram. If it does not indicate this, but is merely a sign, then it is less severe.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
