Patience in the Face of Calamities
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A large sum of money was stolen from me, and that was two months ago, but until now I feel a great burden and much sadness in my chest, and my soul is affected, which has impacted my health. So what do you advise me to do—may Allah reward you with good—to remove this worry and sadness from me, and what are the recommended supplications in this matter?
Answer:
We advise you to be humble before Allah, to remove this pain from your heart, and to trust that He will replace what was lost to you, for He is the One who said: : [al-Taghābun: 11], meaning except by His decree and destiny. [al-Taghābun: 11]. Some of the Salaf said: He is the man who is struck by a calamity, and he knows that it is from Allah; so he is pleased and submits.
You must realize that this is by the knowledge of Allah, and that it is by His decree and destiny, so you should submit to it, and ask Him to compensate you with good, or to return to you what was stolen from you, or to compensate you with something better than it. And Allah says—(Exalted and Majestic is He): [al-Baqarah: 155]. So you have been struck by a loss of wealth through theft, and Allah says: [al-Baqarah: 155-157].
So if this good comes to you in the form of prayers from your Lord and mercy, and guidance; then rejoice in the good outcome, and the replacement from your Lord. Do not let this that was taken worry you; this has passed in the knowledge of Allah, and His destiny that it would be taken. And you must be patient until you are compensated with something better than it, and better than it, and return to Allah, and ask Him, (Glorified and Exalted is He), from His bounty. Do not grieve, for the matter is easy.

No disaster strikes except by permission of Allah

And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient,
وَلَنَبْلُوَنَّكُمْ بِشَيْءٍ مِنَ الْخَوْفِ وَالْجُوعِ وَنَقْصٍ مِنَ الْأَمْوَالِ وَالْأَنْفُسِ وَالثَّمَرَاتِ وَبَشِّرِ الصَّابِرِينَbut give good tidings to the patient, (156) Who, when disaster strikes them, say, "Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return." (157) Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the [rightly] guided.
So if this good comes to you in the form of prayers from your Lord and mercy, and guidance; then rejoice in the good outcome, and the replacement from your Lord.
