A reminder from the Shaykh on how to raise the hands at the takbir of ihram.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
All praise is due to Allah; we praise Him, seek His help, and seek His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evils of our own selves and from the evil of our deeds. Whomsoever Allah guides, none can mislead, and whomsoever He leaves to mislead, none can guide. And I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger.
O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him]. يا أيها الذين آمنوا اتقوا الله حقَّ تقاته ولا تموتنَّ إلا وأنتم مسلمون
[Ali 'Imran 3:102]
,
O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allah is ever, over you, an Observer.
[An-Nisa 4:1]
,
(70) O you who have believed, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice. (71) He will [then] amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great attainment. يا أيها الذين آمنوا اتقوا الله وقولوا قولًا سديدًا يصلح لكم أعمالكم ويغفر لكم ذنوبكم ومن يطع الله ورسوله فقد فاز فوزًا عظيمًا
[Al-Ahzab 33:70-71]
, As for what follows:
Indeed, the best of speech is the speech of Allah, and the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and the worst of matters are their innovations, and every innovation is a religious innovation, and every religious innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Fire. And after that:
Among the old proverbs or sayings is their statement: "Satisfying people is a goal that cannot be attained." The students' desires and suggestions are numerous and very numerous, so it is not possible to fulfill every request or desire among these requests and desires. Therefore, we apologize in advance that our brothers should not direct their suggestions and requirements to us; especially since much of what they request of us is recorded and well-known words, and it is not good to repeat what has already been spoken about in many lectures, whether in this country or elsewhere. Therefore, we suggest that your questions be ones that students and Muslims in general need, and that they not be repetitive and well-known in their rulings due to the frequency of questions about them. This is one point.
The other point is that I saw just now something that I am obligated to remind you of, even though it is one of the matters that does not invalidate the prayer due to ignorance of it, but rather it is a deficiency in the characteristic of the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) prayer. I saw some people when they raise their hands at the takbir of ihram do it this way; meaning they place their thumbs behind their ears, as if they are placing their palms on their ears. We should remember that the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is only known through knowledge and understanding of what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do. Therefore, he said:
offer your prayers in the way you saw me offering my prayers صلُّوا كما رأيتموني أصلي
Sahih al-Bukhari 6008
. So the Sunnah in raising the hands at the takbir of ihram should be observed as follows: First, one should raise his hands so that they are level with his ears, and he should not touch the fleshy part of his ears with his thumbs, nor do it this way, let alone do it this way, but rather this way, aligning the palms with the fleshy parts of the ears. This is the characteristic narrated by Wail ibn Hujr (may Allah be pleased with him) and others of his Companions (peace and blessings be upon him).
The second characteristic is this; one aligns them with the tops of his shoulders. This is what should be observed, and the best of matters is the middle, and loving extremes is an error. This corresponds to the exaggeration we referred to just now, or this, as some Hanafis or some of those who are negligent regarding the Sunnah do; where he is standing in prayer and wants to bow, so he does it this way, as if he moved his hands, he did not raise them level with his shoulders, nor level with his ears, but rather he makes a simple movement like this. The hands should be raised completely in the two forms mentioned just now, either to the tops of the shoulders, or level with the ears. This is what is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Now, I hope that you will observe in your questions what I mentioned just now; that you ask about what you have not previously asked about, and that it be from the matters that Muslims need.
Please proceed.
