The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Not one of us is he who does not sing with the Qur'an.” What is the meaning of singing with the Qur'an?

The questioner : You say that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, What is the meaning of singing with the Qur'an here?

The Shaykh : The scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) differed regarding the meaning of his statement, It was said that the meaning is that he did not find it sufficient in place of other things, because whoever does not find the Qur'an sufficient in place of other things and follows other than the Qur'an is in great danger and may thereby exit from Islam. It was also said that the meaning is that whoever does not beautify his voice with the Qur'an out of contempt for the Qur'an is not one of us.
And it is known that this is not to be taken at its apparent meaning, in the sense that whoever does not recite the Qur'an in the manner of singing is in no way from the Messenger. This is certainly not what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) intended.
