The Shaykh’s remarks on the first thing a couple does upon entering the marriage: their prayer of two rak'ahs.

The Shaykh : The other point that should be mentioned is that when the two spouses are about to consummate the marriage, they must begin this partnership—which is unlike other partnerships, as it is usually a partnership for life—by praying two rak'ahs. They should pray two rak'ahs, and there is no doubt that remembering Allah the Exalted at this hour, when young people usually cannot control themselves except to satisfy their desire as quickly as possible, is certainly a permissible matter. However, if one of them restrains his desire so that each prays two rak'ahs, and then each approaches the other to satisfy their desire after having placed the obedience of Allah Blessed and Exalted is He before it, then that is an opening of the marital life and this happy partnership with the obedience of Allah the Exalted. It is hoped that this will be a cause of their happiness in this worldly life and in the Hereafter. This is a word of reminder, and the reminder benefits the believers. Usually, in such a speech and in such a gathering, a question regarding what was heard will come to the mind of one of the attendees. I have no objection to hearing that question or another. If I am prepared and find an answer in my heart, I will do so; otherwise, we will dispense with the answer by saying: "Half of knowledge is 'I do not know.' And peace be upon you."
The questioner : And: May Allah bless you, O our Shaykh, and may Allah reward you with good.
The questioner : A questioner asks: What is the ruling? He does not have one, two, or three wives, and he is asking about the fifth and sixth. Is it permissible for a man to marry a fifth and sixth wife, or not?
The Shaykh : How is it that you do not have one and you are asking about the sixth...? This, O Abu 'Abdullah, is a question or a joke?
Abu 'Abdullah: By Allah, it is a question, O our Shaykh.
