Is it permissible for an adult to be breastfed in order to become a mahram?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Regarding the issue of the breastfeeding of Salim by the daughter of Suhayl, what is said? The Shaykh : Is the story specific to Salim alone, as is the opinion of the majority, orThe Shaykh : For example, it is seen as the opinion of Ibn Taymiyyah, which is that one whose situation is like Salim's is not considered specific to Salim alone, but rather applies to anyone whose situation is like Salim's.

The Shaykh : What is the opinion of Ibn Taymiyyah?

The questioner : Ibn Taymiyyah does not consider it specific to Salim alone, but rather to anyone whose situation is like Salim's.

The Shaykh : This is our opinion, this is our opinion.

The questioner : So how do we give a practical example?

The Shaykh : I gave examples of some settlers in France. We imagine, for instance, a French family that was living in their disbelief and misguidance—may Allah reward you with good—that was living in their disbelief and misguidance. Two brothers, one married and the other still single, converted to Islam. The circumstances of the single one did not allow him to live apart from his married brother until he could get married. So this dispensation can be utilized for this family: the brother is breastfed by his brother's wife, becoming a mahram, and the issues that might arise from entering and leaving are resolved, as in the story I mentioned earlier. In other words, the summary of the matter is that it is not permissible to expand upon this for the slightest occasion.

The questioner : What is the criterion?

The Shaykh : The criterion is dire necessity, and dire necessity is estimated according to its measure, like all matters. Can you set a criterion for matters that a person encounters frequently and very frequently, let alone other matters that not everyone encounters, but only some people, and even those only very rarely? What is the criterion in such cases as the saying of Allah the Exalted:
So fear Allah as much as you are able
[At-Taghabun 64:16]
What is the definition? What is the criterion in the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And [due] to Allah from the people is a pilgrimage to the House - for whoever is able to find thereto a way
[Ali 'Imran 3:97]
What is the definition of ability for every person obligated to perform Hajj to the House of Allah the Sacred? What is the criterion in the saying regarding the peace derived from the Qur'an:
Of whatever I have commanded you, do as much of it as you are able, and from whatever I have forbidden you, avoid it.
Sahih Ibn Hibban 15:14
, and finally
offer prayer in standing condition; if you are unable to do so, then in sitting condition: if you are then at your side
Sunan Abi Dawud 952Sahih (Al-Albani)
What is the criterion? And after the final, and perhaps the final of the final, except what you are compelled to do
Prohibited to you are dead animals
[Al-Ma'idah 5:3]
How does it remain? Who is the one who needs to define the compulsion? Does he have to wait for the one who is exposed to destruction to find a shaykh in that wilderness where there is no one to ask and take a fatwa from, or to call him by phone, and there is no phone there? Or does he have to judge himself? He has to judge himself, and he may be one of the most ignorant people. So it is he who determines whether he has fallen into this dire necessity or not, and so it is with the matter we were discussing.
