Is it permissible to treat asthma by drinking monitor lizard blood?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : It is said that monitor lizard blood is a medicine for treating asthma. Is it permissible to use it, especially since it has been tried and its benefit has been observed?

The Shaykh : This depends on the ruling regarding the meat of the monitor lizard: is it lawful or forbidden? The answer branches out from this scholarly disagreement. Whoever holds my view that the meat of the monitor lizard is lawful, because it was eaten in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and he approved of it, then it is permissible to eat it. Consequently, its blood is not ritually impure. On the contrary, whoever holds the view, as is the position of the Hanafi school, that the monitor lizard is not lawful to eat, then its blood is like the blood of all other forbidden animals. It is not permissible to treat oneself with something forbidden. However, we are narrating this to explain the reality of the disagreement among scholars, and we choose the first opinion. In that case, it is permissible to treat oneself with it, because one does not treat oneself with something forbidden.

The questioner : With monitor lizard blood?

The Shaykh : Yes, by Allah.

Another questioner : ... and the spilled blood is forbidden, whether it is from a lawful or a forbidden animal.

The Shaykh : We know that the traces of the Salaf indicate that some of the Companions had traces of blood on their clothes from the slaughtered animal, and this blood that affected them is the spilled blood.

Another questioner : This is correct.

The Shaykh : So?

Another questioner : It may be said ... every ritually impure thing is forbidden, but not every forbidden thing is ritually impure.

The Shaykh : Correct...

Another questioner : So when the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said
Two kinds of dead meat and two kinds of blood have been permitted to us. أحلت لنا ميتتان و دمان
Sunan Ibn Majah 3314Sahih (Darussalam)

The Shaykh : ... this last one.

Another questioner : When the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said
Two kinds of dead meat and two kinds of blood have been permitted to us. أحلت لنا ميتتان و دمان
Sunan Ibn Majah 3314Sahih (Darussalam)

The Shaykh : And it is so.

Another questioner : The two kidneys, the liver, and the spleen, as if the rest of the blood is forbidden.

The Shaykh : Definitely forbidden.

Another questioner : Consuming it.

The Shaykh : It is forbidden to eat it, but is this ritually impure such that it is not permissible to use it?

Another questioner : No, regarding ritual impurity, we do not have ... .

The Shaykh : This is good. So then?

Another questioner : This man.The questioner : He says he wants to drink monitor lizard blood.

The Shaykh : He wants to drink monitor lizard blood?

Another questioner : Ah

The Shaykh : Was it for drinking or for medicine?

Another questioner : Medicine, drinking.

The Shaykh : No problem, let us hear the question.

The questioner : It is said that monitor lizard blood is a medicine for treating asthma. Is it permissible to use it, especially since it has been tried and recovery has been observed?

The Shaykh : Good, there is no report on the subject of drinking.

Another questioner : We know how this is done.

The Shaykh : No problem, but no.

Another questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : May Allah reward you with good. If the intention is drinking, the professor’s explanation here is that it is not permissible.

Another questioner : Our Shaykh, we have prepared for you the question: If the meat of the monitor lizard or any other animal is lawful, is it permissible to drink its blood? We had prepared this ... May Allah bless you.

The Shaykh : If you had prepared it, you were required to present it here.
