Drinking Blood for Treatment

Fatwa No. ( 16235 )
Q: I know a man who is suffering from asthma, and the disease has had a major impact on his life. He has sought treatment in all regions of the Kingdom and abroad, in Egypt and the United Arab Emirates , even though his financial situation does not allow for this, yet he has not found a cure for this disease, except by the will of Allah. It was mentioned to him that a man treated his son by slaughtering a desert animal called the *dhab*, then taking its blood in a container and drinking it, and the son was healed by the power of Allah and then by this blood. May Allah bless your knowledge, O Shaykh: What is your opinion on this man treating himself by drinking this blood, despite its prohibition in the Noble Qur'an? I ask for prayers for us and for him for a speedy recovery and steadfastness upon the religion of Allah. I inform you, O Shaykh, that news and knowledge of this treatment are widespread in the southern region, and some of them say: He will drink from this blood and then seek forgiveness and repent to Allah?
A : Blood is forbidden by the explicit text of the Noble Qur'an, and it is not permissible to drink it for treatment; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Abi Dawud 3874Da'if (Al-Albani) , and permissible, good medicines are abundant, praise be to Allah. Indeed, Allah did not send down a disease except that He sent down a cure for it, as stated in the authentic hadith. So the patient should seek treatment from specialized doctors, while relying upon Allah the Exalted and placing his trust in Him.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
