Benefits of the Hadith of the Scorpion.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : This also has a precedent or something similar to it that has come before us, which is the issue of the scorpion, and that the scorpion is lawful. In it is evidence for following this approach in rulings: that a person does not do something and does not forbid it for others, and that he does something and does not make it obligatory for others. That is, a person may do something out of caution, but he cannot compel people to do it; or he may not do something out of caution, but he does not forbid it for people. This is an approach a person adopts in his dealings with his Lord regarding himself, even if, regarding the servants of Allah, he does not oblige them to do or leave anything except by something he is certain of or what is predominant in his opinion, where acting on the predominant opinion is permissible. In it is also... In it is evidence that if a person leaves lawful food because his soul is disgusted by it, he is not to be blamed for it. Among such things is if a fly falls into a drink; the prescribed action is to dip it in and then remove it. If someone says, "I do not feel like drinking the drink now," we do not blame him, because this is something that the souls of some people are disgusted by. In it is also the question: Do we say that it is better to leave eating the scorpion in emulation of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? The Messenger said:
I do not eat it لا آكله
We say no; he did not say "I do not eat it" as an act of worship, but because he was disgusted by it. So this is not from the category of worship, but from the category of natural disposition or something close to that. If a person desires it, the Sunnah is to eat it. If someone asks, "How do you know that the Sunnah is to eat it?" The Sunnah is the action of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his approval. What else? His saying, his doing, and his approval. Here, he approved Khalid ibn al-Walid’s eating. So if your soul desires something and it is permissible, the Sunnah is to eat it and not to prevent yourself from what Allah has made lawful for you.
