Q: If I am listening to the Friday sermon and the khatib mentions the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), what is the method for sending blessings and peace upon him (peace and blessings be upon him)?
A: It is obligatory to listen attentively to the Friday sermon, and to refrain from speaking and moving, due to the prohibition of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) from speaking while the imam is delivering the sermon. If one hears the mention of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the sermon, he should send blessings upon him quietly, and not raise his voice with it; because it is a supplication and not speech. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
