Teaching the Dying Person "There is no god but Allah": Is It Permissible to Add "Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah"?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The dying person is taught the testimony that there is no god but Allah. Is it permissible to add to that that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah?

The Shaykh : No.

The questioner : And is it permissible to add that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah? And is there an authentic hadith regarding this?

The Shaykh : No. What has been transmitted is what you know, which is
‘Urge your dying ones to say La ilaha illallah.” لقنوا موتاكم لا إله إلا الله
Sunan Ibn Majah 1444Sahih (Darussalam)
Here, the teaching refers to the foundations of Islam, under which falls the faith in Muhammad as the Messenger of Allah and in all the pillars of faith... and so on. So the place now is not a place of instruction, but a place of teaching and reminding of the foundation of Islam, which is this teaching. It is sufficient. I mean, let us not call it philosophy or excessive talk. We say the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said it this way:
‘Urge your dying ones to say La ilaha illallah.” لقنوا موتاكم لا إله إلا الله
Sunan Ibn Majah 1444Sahih (Darussalam)
Whereas in a hadith like
I have been commanded to fight the people until they bear witness to La ilaha illallah (there is none worthy of worship except Allah) أمرت أن أقاتل الناس حتى يشهدوا أن لا إله إلا الله ، قال وأن محمدا رسول الله
Sunan an-Nasa'i 3983Sahih (Darussalam)
So we stop at what the Messenger (peace be upon him) taught us, and we do not add anything else to the testimony that there is no god but Allah.
