Teaching the Dying Person "There is no god but Allah": Is It Permissible to Add to It?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The dying person is taught the testimony that there is no god but Allah. Is it permissible to add to that that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah?

The Shaykh: No.

The questioner : And is it permissible to add that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah? And is there an authentic hadith regarding this?

The Shaykh : No. What has been transmitted is what you know,
‘Urge your dying ones to say La ilaha illallah.” لقنوا موتاكم لا إله إلا الله
Sunan Ibn Majah 1444Sahih (Darussalam)
meaning that here the teaching is the word of Islam, under which falls the faith in Muhammad as the Messenger of Allah and in all the pillars of faith, and so on. So the place now is not a place of teaching, but a place of teaching and reminding of the word of Islam, which is the teaching, and that is sufficient. In other words, let us not call it philosophy or excessive talk. We say the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said thus:
‘Urge your dying ones to say La ilaha illallah.” لقنوا موتاكم لا إله إلا الله
Sunan Ibn Majah 1444Sahih (Darussalam)
whereas in a hadith like:
I have been commanded to fight the people until they bear witness to La ilaha illallah أمرت أن أقاتل الناس حتى يشهدوا أن لا إله إلا الله
Sunan an-Nasa'i 3983Sahih (Darussalam)
, he said:
and that Muhammad is the messenger of Allahوأن محمدا رسول الله
Sahih Muslim 29
