Do the jinn exert their power over humans?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : We come to the topic of the jinn exerting their power over humans—what Allah willed. This is undoubtedly a matter established by the evidence of the Qur'an when it described those who consume riba
Those who consume interest cannot stand [on the Day of Resurrection] except as one stands who is being beaten by Satan into insanity. That is because they say, "Trade is [just] like interest." But Allah has permitted trade and has forbidden interest. So whoever has received an admonition from his Lord and desists may have what is past, and his affair rests with Allah. But whoever returns to [dealing in interest or usury] - those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide eternally therein.
[Al-Baqarah 2:275]
This is very clear, and it becomes even clearer when we recall two facts, one of which is stronger than the other, or the first is stronger than the second. The first is that there are hadiths stating that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a woman who had a boy afflicted with possession. She complained of his condition to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so he recited some verses over him and ordered the jinn possessing him to leave. It left as if it were smoke, as if it had been released from a tether. The Messenger was passing by her on his way. When he returned, he asked her
How is he? كيف هو ؟
and she said, "O Messenger of Allah, he is in the best of conditions." Yes; this is the first and stronger point. The second point is that Muslims continue to follow the Sunnah of the Messenger (peace be upon him) in extracting the jinn from the possessed human. The most famous of these scholars in the past is Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him). I believe that if we had only this example, it would be sufficient evidence that possession exists. Why? Because Ibn Taymiyyah is the furthest of the Muslim scholars we know from being mentally possessed by Satan. We were physically possessed, but many scholars are mentally possessed by Satan, and the examples are not far from you.

The questioner : Before us

The Shaykh : It is not far from you. Yes, and this is undoubtedly more dangerous than that. But Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah bless him, the best of the created, is the furthest of people from superstition, from the influence of jinn, from deception, and from the devils of jinn and humans, and so on. So, if he was given a possessed person, he would recite some verses of the Qur'an over him and rebuke the one possessing him, and it would leave him, and he would be cured by the permission of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He. This would have been sufficient as practical evidence from such a noble imam, let alone that he follows the Master of the Prophets and Messengers (peace and blessings be upon him). What is beyond reason, they do not accept it, and this contradicts
Who believe in the unseen الذين يؤمنون بالغيب
[Al-Baqarah 2:3]
