The questioner : Three brothers live in one house and work in one place, sharing the same food and drink. In the festival of sacrifice, they sacrifice one animal, meaning that the three of them slaughter one sacrificial animal as I mentioned, and they say: that it suffices for all three of them because our wealth is one and we share in everything. What is the ruling in this matter? May Allah reward you?
The Shaykh : It appears to me that the ruling in this case is that their sacrificial animal is sufficient, because their wealth is in the position of a single wealth, so one sacrificial animal suffices for them, as they are one household. The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) used to sacrifice a sheep for themselves and their household. This is different from the case where each of them is specific to his own wealth, in which case one sacrificial animal does not suffice for them. For this reason, if three neighbors share in one sacrificial animal, that does not suffice, and the sheep is not a sacrificial animal but rather a meat animal. This is because one of the conditions of the sacrificial animal is that it be in accordance with the Shari'ah, and the Shari'ah did not come with the sharing of two or more people in one sheep. Rather, sharing is in cattle and camels, where seven people share in one cow and seven people share in one camel.
And it is known that one of the conditions of righteous work is that it be in accordance with the Shari'ah.Sahih Muslim 1718b.
As for these people, they are in one house and their wealth is one, so they are in the position of one man, and the sheep suffices for all of them.
The questioner : May Allah reward you. This is a message received from 'Aziz Jawdah, of Egyptian nationality, residing in the Kingdom. He says:
