The ruling on a single sacrificial animal for one household

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner from Palestine, Khalid Hussein, asks: “As for me, Your Eminence, I live with my brothers and my father in one house, and a married brother of mine lives with us, and he has children. My question is: Does the sacrificial animal—meaning my father’s sacrifice—suffice for all of us, or is it obligatory for my married brother to offer another sacrificial animal?”

Answer:
The Sunnah is that one sacrificial animal from your father suffices, because you are in one house. So if your father sacrifices on behalf of all of you, it suffices, and praise be to Allah. It is a Sunnah, not obligatory; it is a confirmed Sunnah. So if your father slaughters the sacrificial animal, it suffices for all of you, and for your married brother as well, and praise be to Allah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to sacrifice with one sheep on behalf of himself and his household. Yes.
