Do neighboring brothers share a single 'Id sacrifice?

Fatwa number ( 19356 )
Q: I live with my brothers, and we are five males, all of us married. We live in popular houses facing each other, surrounded by a courtyard in a circular shape. We share one meal: breakfast, dinner, and lunch. We have one gathering place, and our mother lives in a house with all of us. My question is: Is one sacrificial animal sufficient for 'Id al-Adha as a sacrifice for all of us, as our father used to do before his passing
(may Allah have mercy on him), or is it obligatory for each person to have a separate sacrifice?
A: If you share in wealth and expenses, then one 'Id sacrifice is sufficient for all of you, because you are considered to be in the same household. However, if each householder is independent of the others in his wealth and expenses, then each household has its own ruling, and a separate 'Id sacrifice is prescribed for it. This is unless one person volunteers to offer a single 'Id sacrifice for all of them from his own wealth, in which case there is no harm in that. Know that the 'Id sacrifice is a recommended practice (sunnah) and not obligatory. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
