The questioner : We have a custom in our village, which is that some women visit one another, and a woman does not go to her neighbor or her relative unless she takes with her some food or a sum of money, which she then presents to the person she is visiting. Is this considered a debt that must be repaid?

The Shaykh : If this is what has become customary, there is nothing wrong with it, but it is not a debt that must be repaid. Rather, it is according to one’s ability. If it is easy, that is what is required; if it is not easy, there is no blame in leaving it. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you and bless you. This is a questioner for the program who says, “O honorable Shaykh.”
