The questioner : What is the ruling on a man who mistreats his neighbors, speaks ill of them, and prevents his family from visiting them, and is it permissible for his wife to visit them without his knowledge? Please advise us.
The Shaykh : And who, or what?
The questioner : And is it permissible for his wife to visit them without his knowledge? We ask for advice and guidance in this matter.
The Shaykh : Mistreating the neighbor is forbidden and a deficiency in faith, due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)Sahih Muslim 47a and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him) Sahih al-Bukhari 6016 They said, “Who, O Messenger of Allah?” He said, Sahih Muslim 46 meaning his oppression and injustice. This is evidence of a great deficiency in faith by not honoring the neighbor or by mistreating him in word or deed.
And in the hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said,Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1942Sahih (Darussalam) It is obligatory for the neighbor to honor his neighbor and refrain from harming him. Even if it is assumed that the neighbor is harming him, let him be patient, let him seek reward from Allah, and let him fulfill his duty, so that he becomes the better of the two, having fulfilled the duty and been patient with the harm of his neighbor.
As for his preventing his wife from visiting them, meaning from visiting his neighbors, this is up to him. If he fears for his wife that if she goes out to the neighbors they will corrupt her for him, or if there are young men at the neighbors’ place whom he fears might cause his wife to be tempted by them or they by her, then in that case he prevents her, and he has the right to do so. It is not permissible for her to go out to them after his prevention except with his permission, because the husband is the guardian of the household. Yes.

he who believes in Allah and the Last Day should treat his neighbour with kindness
من كان يؤمن بالله واليوم الأخر فليُكرم جارهBy Allah, he does not believe! By Allah, he does not believe! By Allah, he does not believe!
والله لا يؤمن والله لا يؤمن والله لا يؤمنwhose neighbour is not secure from his wrongful conduct

Jibril – may the Salawat of Allah be upon him – continued to recommend me about (treating) the neighbors so (kindly and politely), that I thought he would order me to make them heirs.
