He spoke about those who revive the Sunnah, those who kill the Sunnah, and those who support religious innovation.

The Shaykh : Now I will conclude this speech with an example, perhaps some of our brothers present here will join us in explaining what will benefit you, if Allah wills. I will give you one example that clarifies the current disagreement between those who call to reviving the Sunnah and killing religious innovation, and those who support religious innovation at the expense of killing the Sunnah. We will not go far from you. You have the adhan (call to prayer) now. Is the adhan in all Islamic countries, except a few, according to the Sunnah? The answer is no, because in many countries the adhan has an introduction and a conclusion. In other countries, and this is the majority, it must have a conclusion. As we all know, the adhan in the Sunnah begins with Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, and ends with La ilaha illa Allah. The word of tawhid (the oneness of Allah). This is the adhan of Bilal, the adhan of 'Amir ibn Abi Maktum, and the famous adhan of Abu Mahdhura. These are the most famous mu'adhdhins (callers to prayer) of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). They used to call to prayer in his time without preceding it with anything, and without following the adhan with anything else. This is the Sunnah by consensus. But those who support religious innovation say this is a good religious innovation, meaning an addition to the adhan, whether it is before or after. This is a matter about which treatises have been written between the supporters of the Sunnah and the supporters of religious innovation, and I do not want to stand here for a long time either. I believe that the attendees, if Allah wills, all know the truth that the Sunnah in the adhan is only as we said:
Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar; La ilaha illallah (Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, there is none worthy of worship except Allah.) الله أكبر الله أكبر لا إله إلا الله
Sunan an-Nasa'i 649Hasan (Darussalam)
. But I want to remind you now of an innovation that, unfortunately, is specific to your country, unlike all the countries of Islam, and that is what they call the unified adhan. The unified adhan contradicts tawhid (the oneness of Allah), because tawhid, as we said, was explained by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He established an adhan in every mosque, and a mosque in every neighborhood. You know that the Grand Mosque in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in Madinah, when it was his mosque, the Muslims would gather from all the mosques that were around Madinah in al-'Ula and similar areas. As for his mosque (peace be upon him), it was a congregational mosque, meaning the Friday prayer was performed in it, unlike the other mosques that were in al-'Ula. One of those mosques was the mosque of Mu'adh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him), whose hadith came in Sahih al-Bukhari that he used to pray the 'Isha' prayer behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), gaining two virtues: the virtue of praying in the Prophet's Mosque first, which is a thousand times better than other mosques, such as the mosques of al-'Ula, and the virtue of praying behind the Prophet himself (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). So he would pray the 'Isha' prayer behind him, then go to his people's mosque and lead them in prayer as an imam. The 'Isha' prayer was voluntary for him because he had already performed the obligatory prayer behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and it was voluntary for him. There was no unified adhan, excuse me. It might be said here that the means were not available as they are today, broadcasting the adhan from one place to all parts of the world as global radio stations do today. But we say there is no harm in broadcasting the adhan in the widest possible circle using these means that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) created and facilitated for His servants, but within the limits of adhering to the Sunnah. If it is from the Sunnah for every mosque to have an adhan and iqamah (second call), then it is not permissible to unify the adhan in one country with many mosques, especially since our country differs from many other countries in that it has plateaus, mountains, and valleys, and perhaps some plains. So the legal times for the five prayers differ from the mountain to the plateau to the plain to the valley. Therefore, it is not permissible to unify the adhan, and as a result, they fall into problems and violations of the Shari'ah and legal rulings, fundamental violations. For example, people break their fast before the sun sets due to the unified adhan, and people delay breaking their fast in Ramadan until more than ten minutes later, waiting for the unified adhan. And people pray Fajr before its time because the unified adhan is called for a certain mountain, while the dawn has not yet appeared for the plateaus, plains, or valleys, and so on. All of this came from unifying the adhans, if this expression is correct. This is undoubtedly an innovation that did not exist and does not exist to this hour in any Islamic country except in this country. We do not know what occurred to those who innovated this innovation in this country, and what made this innovation attractive to them. My hope and wish is that the authorities who care about the rulings of religion and restoring them to the Sunnah, without deviating from it or opposing it, will abolish this adhan and instruct the mu'adhdhins to call to prayer in their own mosques, observing the eight times according to the Islamic system. I wanted to stop at this example to open the door for some of our brothers to hear from them what will benefit us, if Allah wills, as an example of how Islam today has become a stranger. The examples are not in the tens or hundreds, but in the thousands, requiring volumes and details of these innovations that have spread in our homeland in all the countries of Islam. This example of the unified adhan, which has no basis in the Shari'ah, is sufficient for us now, and praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.

The questioner : What is the Sunnah in building mosques, so that we avoid violation in building mosques?
