We see some of the brothers raising their finger during the tashahhud or the sitting between the two prostrations. Is there a basis for this? And likewise, is the finger raised when reciting the testimony of faith?

The questioner : The honorable Shaykh, this questioner says: We see some of the brothers raising their finger during the tashahhud or the sitting between the two prostrations. Is there a basis for this? And likewise, is the finger raised when reciting the testimony of faith?

The Shaykh : Yes, we have spoken about this. We said that one holds the little finger, the ring finger, and the thumb, or curls the thumb with the middle finger, and leaves the index finger open. However, it is not moved during supplication. As for the tashahhud, the jurists mentioned "that he also points with it during the tashahhud", but some of the brothers said that the hadith reported regarding this is weak. Allah knows best; I do not know about this.
