The Meaning of His Statement: "I Have Contracted Major Ritual Impurity and There Is No Water"
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And in the hadith of 'Imran ibn Husayn, which the author mentioned and al-Bukhari narrated in full , he said, "I have contracted major ritual impurity." What is major ritual impurity? In the Shari'ah, major ritual impurity applies to two things:
Intercourse, even if no emission occurs.
And emission, even if no intercourse occurs.
Now, what if both intercourse and emission occur? Then it is all the more so. So, whoever has intercourse with his wife is in a state of major ritual impurity, even if he does not emit, and whoever touches his wife and emits without intercourse is in a state of major ritual impurity...
That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed one day and saw a man sitting apart from the people, not praying with them. He said, "What prevented you?" He said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have contracted major ritual impurity and there is no water." He said, "Use the clean earth, for it is sufficient for you."
