The questioner : He says:The questioner : We have a woman with us who is fifty-five years old, and her menstrual period has stopped for approximately two years. When we traveled from Riyadh, blood came to her, and she does not know whether it is menstrual blood or not. When we arrived at the miqat, she performed the full ritual bath and entered into the rites of pilgrimage, but the blood has not stopped until now. Two days have passed in this state, and she has not performed the 'Umrah. What should she do? Should she perform the 'Umrah, or what should she do? Knowing that she is also not performing the ritual prayer?

The Shaykh : Many scholars specify that the cessation of menstruation for a woman occurs at fifty years of age. Based on this opinion, this blood that affected this woman is not menstrual blood, so it does not prevent her from performing the ritual prayer, circumambulation, or fasting. However, it is not permissible for her to enter the Sacred Mosque or any other mosque if she fears that she will contaminate it with the blood coming from her. As for the opinion of those who say that there is no specific age for the cessation of menstruation and that a woman may menstruate even after fifty years of age, if the menstruation is continuous with her—meaning she has reached fifty years and the menstruation remains continuous with her—then this blood is menstrual blood. But this woman, as the questioner mentions, had her blood stop for a period of two years, and then this blood came to her. This is a difficult case; it is actually difficult because if it had been continuous with her, there would be no difficulty in it being menstrual blood according to the stronger opinion. But since it stopped for two years and then this irregular blood came, it appears that it is not menstrual blood. In that case, she may perform circumambulation, perform the ritual prayer, and fast.
