Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : He says: What is your esteemed opinion of this verse from the perspective of creed:
"And time is nothing but the reciters of my poems; if I speak poetry, time becomes a reciter"

The Shaykh : Yes, I say as Allah (Mighty and Majestic) said:
(224) And the poets - [only] the deviators follow them; (225) Do you not see that in every valley they roam (226) And that they say what they do not do? - (227) Except those [poets] who believe and do righteous deeds والشعراء يتبعهم الغاوون ألم تر أنهم في كل واد يهيمون وأنهم يقولون ما لا يفعلون إلا الذين آمنوا وعملوا الصالحات
[Ash-Shu'ara 26:224-227]
Poets always resort to great exaggerations. The poet may not have had a consideration for creed when he said this verse, but it is an exaggeration. He said that time is among the reciters of poems, meaning that if I recite a poem, people will transmit it throughout the ages. So if I speak poetry, time becomes a reciter. He does not mean that if the poet speaks poetry, time stands up and recites forever, but he intends exaggeration. And the poets have said: "The sweetest poetry is the falsest" The sweetest poetry is the falsest. So leave the poets and their exaggerations and their lies.
