The questioner : May Allah reward the honorableThe Shaykh : My father is elderly, bedridden, unable to perform ritual purity, and unable to pray standing, knowing that he does not clean himself after urination. Even if the prayer is dictated to him, he sometimes talks. Also, regarding fasting, he wants to fast, but it is difficult for him, and he forgets and asks for water, so I give it to him. Is there any sin on me for that? Please give me a ruling, may Allah reward you.

The Shaykh : As for fasting, if it is difficult for him, it is not permissible to compel him to do so. Since it is difficult for him and he is in a state of old age, he should feed a poor person for each day, and he should not be forced. As for what concerns prayer and ablution, we have a verse from the Book of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, in which Allah says:
So fear Allah as much as you are able فاتقوا الله ما استطعتم
[At-Taghabun 64:16]
And He says:
Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity لا يكلف الله نفسا إلا وسعها
[Al-Baqarah 2:286]
So he should do what is within his capacity and leave what he is unable to do. He should pray sitting if he cannot stand. If he cannot sit, he should pray lying on his side, moving his head for bowing and prostration. If he cannot perform ablution, he should perform dry ablution with clean earth. If he cannot perform dry ablution with clean earth himself, then his guardian should do it for him, for example, by striking the earth with his hand and wiping the face and hands of this patient with it. Yes.
