The questioner : As a result of my annoyance at a certain situation, I swore that I would not enter my brother’s house again after this day, and now I regret this. What is obligatory for me to expiate this oath?

The Shaykh : Yes. I say first that a person should not rush into taking an oath, but rather should be deliberate. If it is decreed that he will swear, he should couple it with the will of Allah, meaning: by the will of Allah. He should say: “By Allah, I will not do such-and-such, if Allah wills.” And he should accustom his tongue to this, because if he says “if Allah wills” in the oath, he gains two great benefits. The first benefit is that the matter will be made easy for him, and the second benefit is that if he breaks the oath, there is no expiation upon him.
As for the answer to the question, we say: The best thing is that you enter your brother’s house and that you expiate for your oath. This is done by feeding ten poor people, either by gathering them for lunch or dinner, or by giving each of them approximately one kilogram of rice with some meat to accompany it. There is no blame on you if they are in one house to give them the rice all together, so you give them approximately ten kilograms with some meat to accompany it. And if you find a house with five people and another house with five people, distribute the expiation between them in two halves. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah bless you. This listener has symbolized her name with the letters N, K, H from Riyadh. She says:
