It is not permissible to neglect the means for anyone, no matter how high their rank
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: Is it possible for a believer not to take the means if he reaches a certain level of faith due to the strength of his certainty?
A: It is not so; rather, it is obligatory to take the means no matter how much a person believes. Even the Messengers (peace be upon them), who are the best of creation and the highest of people in rank in faith, used to take the means. They are the most perfect of people in faith, the most balanced in judgment, and the most complete in intellect, and yet they took the means.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took the means on the Day of Uhud; he carried a weapon and placed a helmet on his head to protect him from weapons, and he appeared between two coats of mail, meaning he wore two coats of mail. He is the master of the children of Adam, the best of creation, the most perfect in faith, and the most perfect in reliance upon Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He used to eat and drink, have intercourse with women, and take the means.
It is not permissible to neglect the means for any person who has the ability. Rather, every person, even if he reaches the pinnacle of faith, must take the means, just as the best of people, the Messengers, take the means.
