regarding the ruling on seeking the assistance of the jinn in ruqyah?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh: Go ahead.

The questioner : Our Shaykh, in these days we hear and see many of our brothers reading over people afflicted by the jinn and expelling the jinn from them, naturally by reciting the Qur'an. But sometimes, along with their recitation of the Qur'an over them, they employ certain things that were not explicitly mentioned in the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), such as writing the Qur'an on a plate with a specific pen color, then placing it in water, and then having the afflicted person drink this water. Or, for example, some of the brothers, when they expelled a jinni and this jinni accepted Islam, said to him, "I want you to teach me a method by which I can help people who are bewitched." So this jinni said to him, "You bring seven eggs, then you bring saffron water, and you write on each egg
What they have crafted is but the trick of a magician, and the magician will not succeed wherever he is." إنما صنعوا كيد ساحر ولا يفلح الساحر حيث أتى
[Taha 20:69]
and you place these eggs in water, and then the patient or the bewitched person bathes with this water, and he is cured by the permission of Allah." This man who reads over these people, the afflicted ones, said, "I used this method and it succeeded by the permission of Allah, Mighty and Majestic." I asked some scholars, and they said, "As long as it is not shirk (associating partners with Allah), it is permissible." Some people cited the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)
Present to me your ruqyah, as long as it is not shirk. اعرضوا عليّ رقاكم ما لم تكن شركا
So we ask for detail in this matter: what is permissible? What is contrary to the Sunnah? And is any of what I mentioned contrary to the Sunnah or not? May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : First: The description you mentioned of writing with ink and a specific pen has no relation to ruqyah, because ruqyah consists of supplications with which the one performing ruqyah treats some of the sick. This is not of that path at all. Therefore, it is not permissible to cite evidence for this ruqyah, or for this type of treatment, by claiming that it is from the ruqyah that contains no shirk.
Second: We do not see that one who has appointed himself to treat those afflicted by the jinn should use anything more than what came from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of reciting over them verses from the Noble Qur'an or fixed incantations established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). As for addressing the jinni and listening to its advice or its teaching, especially in this form that reached my ears just now, and for the first time I say: if such a prescription were attributed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the matter would require that it be narrated with a valid chain from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). And that is far, far away, because the chain between this human and that jinni—this jinni presents this prescription to be used by the one who performs ruqyah on those afflicted by the jinn—this prescription contains belief in what is beyond the unseen, and this is not permissible except if it is from the Book of Allah or from the hadith of the Messenger of Allah, and the authentic of it. I believe that the spread of seeking the assistance of the jinn in this time is among the calamities of this time and its new fitnah (trial), after people have been delivered from the fitnah that preceded it. You must have heard something of it, and perhaps some of its effects remain to this day, and that is what is called summoning spirits. Summoning spirits is from the work of the shayatin of both humans and jinn. And now this form has developed under the name of performing ruqyah on those afflicted by possession to seeking the assistance of the jinn openly and frankly. Previously, they claimed that they summoned the spirits of the dead, whether they were from the believers or from the disbelievers, and whether they were from the righteous believers or from the wicked. They summoned the spirits, and this is an impossible matter, as we always say, and forever. The soul, if it is a believer, is in bliss, enjoying from the fruits of Paradise, as came in some of the authentic hadiths. And if it is the opposite of that, and may Allah protect us, it is in torment, as came in some of the hadiths also, that the soul of the deceased enjoys in his grave if he is a believer, from a window from which he looks out upon a seat from Paradise, and he comes to him from its spirit and its freshness and its bliss. And the opposite of that, if he is wretched, a window is opened for him to his place in the Fire, and he comes to him from its wind and its smoke and its flame, and he continues to be tormented until the Hour stands. So how can this soul be summoned while it is being tormented, or that soul be summoned while it is enjoying, and it does not wish to return to the world and its wretchedness, except the souls of the martyrs, as came in the authentic hadith, they wish to return. Why? To strive again in the path of Allah, not to be wretched with the wretchedness of people in this worldly life. And yet, it came in the hadith an explanation that the promise from Allah preceded that they do not return to it. So the point is: this misguidance was previously among the misguidances of the lands of disbelief, summoning spirits, and many of some of the Muslims were deceived by it. And it was hard for me that some of the Egyptian exegetes were among these, where he authored a massive book he called *The Spirits*, and mentioned there many and very many incidents and stories to prove that this is a reality that cannot be argued with, and that is summoning the spirits of the dead. And this is an impossible matter, and I think it has recently appeared that that was from the charlatanry of the modern age. So what has taken its place now is calling the jinn and seeking their assistance. And it is amazing that the Muslims fall into such a predicament also. And Allah, Mighty and Majestic, says
And there were men from mankind who sought refuge in men from the jinn, so they [only] increased them in burden. وأنه كان رجال من الإنس يعوذون برجال من الجن فزادوهم رهقا
[Al-Jinn 72:6]
meaning toil and misguidance. So seeking the assistance of the jinn and calling them is a pitfall among the pitfalls by which the Muslim deviates from being a sincere servant to Allah, Mighty and Majestic, as Allah commanded him and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) guided him to. Therefore, I do not see treating the stricken possessed by the jinn with anything more than performing ruqyah with what came in the Book and the Sunnah. As for the addition, that writing, that addition, and so on, I say it is all military charlatanry that a Muslim should not get involved in. Yes.
