The questioner : If a woman menstruates for seven days and this is her permanent custom, but once the blood exceeds seven days and continues with her beyond that, does she pray or not? Given that she always menstruates for only seven days, I ask for your guidance.

The Shaykh : If the menstrual blood exceeds the custom, the stronger position is that she remains in the state of menstruation as long as the blood persists until she becomes pure. So if her custom is seven days and the blood continues until ten days, then all of that is menstruation.
Likewise, if the days of her bleeding are fewer than her custom, she should perform the full ritual bath and pray. So if her custom is ten days, for example, and she becomes pure after seven days, it is obligatory for her to perform the full ritual bath and pray. The ruling revolves around its cause, existing when it exists and ceasing when it ceases. So whenever the menstrual blood is present, its rulings apply, and whenever it is absent, its rulings cease. Allah the Exalted said:
And they ask you about menstruation. Say, "It is harm وَيَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الْمَحِيضِ قُلْ هُوَ أَذًى
[Al-Baqarah 2:222]
So whenever this affliction is present, it is menstruation.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
