Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The questioner says: If a woman’s natural menstrual cycle is five days and this period extends to ten days when she uses one of the methods of contraception, is what exceeds five days considered menstruation or not, and is she permitted to pray despite the bleeding after the fifth day? Please inform us of this.

The Shaykh : First, we say: Using these pills to prevent menstruation or prevent pregnancy is not desirable, and from a medical standpoint, it is harmful. If that is the case, we advise our sisters not to use these pills. One of the drawbacks of these pills is that it causes irregularity in a woman’s cycle, which leads her into doubt and confusion, and likewise leads the muftis into doubt and confusion, because they do not know whether this blood that has changed for her is menstruation or not. Therefore, we say: If it is her custom to menstruate for five days, and she used the pills to prevent pregnancy, and then her cycle increased, this increase follows the original rule, meaning that it is ruled to be menstruation as long as it does not exceed fifteen days. If it exceeds fifteen days, it becomes irregular non-menstrual bleeding, and at that time she returns to her original custom, which is five days.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
