Q: We received this question from one of the female citizens, in which she says: I am an unmarried girl. At first, my menstrual period lasted seven days for about two years. After that, it increased to nine days, then returned to seven, then nine days, and this continued for about three months. Then it changed and became eleven days. After the eleventh day, it returned to nine days. Then I sat for three days in a state of purity. Then I saw blood for one day. Then I sat for two days in a state of purity. Then I sat for ten days in a state of purity, and then the period comes again like the first one. This situation has been with me for about three months, and the type of blood is like menstrual blood, from red to brown. May Your Eminence the Shaykh: We hope
you will inform us of what is required of her so that we may be able to inform the questioner. May Allah guide you and set your steps aright.
A : She must leave off prayer and fasting during the time of the blood and perform the full ritual bath after it stops each time, whether the days are few or many, as long as the days of menstruation do not exceed fifteen days. If the days of blood exceed fifteen days, then she must return to her original custom, which is seven days, and what exceeds that is considered irregular non-menstrual bleeding. She performs the full ritual bath after the seven days and fasts and prays, and performs the ablution for the time of each prayer. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
