What is the ruling on drinking while standing?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : A questioner says, “May the Shaykh be preserved by Allah, many hadiths have been reported that strictly prohibit drinking while standing. What is the stronger position in this issue?”

The Shaykh : The stronger position is that drinking while standing is prohibited, but it is not forbidden (haram); rather, it is disliked (makruh). If there is a need to drink while standing, there is no harm in it. For this reason, it is established that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up to a suspended water skin and drank from it while standing. And what is forbidden (haram) is not made permissible by such a thing, because this prohibition is not permissible to violate, as necessity, as Allah the Exalted said:
while He has explained in detail to you what He has forbidden you, excepting that to which you are compelled وقد فصل لكم ما حرم عليكم إلا ما اضطررتم إليه
[Al-An'am 6:119]
So the correct view is that it is disliked (makruh), and if there is a need for it, there is no harm in it. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
