Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Now, [At-Tawbah 9:129] He is Allah, Mighty and Majestic, the Lord of the Mighty Throne. The "al" in "al-'Arsh" here is for the definite article, meaning the known one. Every believer who recites the Qur'an, when "the Throne" is mentioned, knows it is the Throne of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, upon which He rose. And His saying He attributed Lordship to the Throne because of the greatness of the Throne, for the Throne is the greatest of the created things we know. The heavens and the earth are greater than man. [Ghafir 40:57] The creation of the heavens and the earth is more complete. [Ghafir 40:57] The Throne is much greater than the heavens and the earth. Therefore, it came in the hadith: Answer me, my brother. Nothing. Sahih Ibn Hibban 6:55 It indicates the greatness of the Creator. It remains to be said that this Throne encompasses the created things; it encompasses the created things, and upon it rose the Most Merciful, Mighty and Majestic, as He, Blessed and Exalted is He, said: [Taha 20:5] meaning He rose above the Throne, Exalted and Majestic is He, in a manner befitting His Majesty. It is not permissible for us to ask how He rose above the Throne. It is forbidden for us to ask this: how did He rise? We must believe that He rose above the Throne in the sense of being above it, but it is not for us to say: how did He rise?
