What is the ruling on omitting the name of Allah when slaughtering a sheep, and is it permissible to eat from it?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : In the name of Allah, and praise be to Allah, esteemed scholar...The Shaykh : What is the ruling on one who slaughters an animal and forgets to mention the name of Allah over it? Is His saying, the Exalted:
Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred.
[Al-Baqarah 2:286]
, evidence for this issue?

The Shaykh : Yes. The ruling on one who slaughters an animal and does not mention the name of Allah over it: if he did so intentionally, the slaughtered animal is forbidden, and if he was forgetful... Yes, if he did so intentionally, the slaughtered animal is forbidden and his action is forbidden, so the animal is not to be eaten and he is sinful. The evidence for this is His saying, the Exalted:
So eat of that [meat] upon which the name of Allah has been mentioned
[Al-An'am 6:118]
. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever does not slaughter, let him slaughter in the name of Allah.
. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
you can eat what is slaughtered and the Name of Allah is mentioned at the time of slaughtering. But don't use teeth or fingernails
Sahih al-Bukhari 2507
. So if the one who slaughters omits the mention of the name intentionally, he is sinful and his slaughtered animal is forbidden. And if he omits it out of forgetfulness, he is not sinful, by His saying:
Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred.
[Al-Baqarah 2:286]
. But the slaughtered animal is forbidden by His saying, the Exalted:
And do not eat of that upon which the name of Allah has not been mentioned
[Al-An'am 6:121]
. So He, Glorified and Exalted is He, forbade us from eating from that over which the name of Allah was not mentioned. So if we eat out of forgetfulness, there is no sin upon us. And if we eat while ignorant, there is no sin upon us, because there is a slaughter and an eating. If the one who slaughters forgets the mention, what is he? He is not sinful. Does the eater eat from that over which the name of Allah was not mentioned? We say no, because Allah forbade you, He said:
And do not eat of that upon which the name of Allah has not been mentioned
[Al-An'am 6:121]
. And this slaughtered animal, the name of Allah was not mentioned over it. But if the eater eats out of forgetfulness, the eater out of forgetfulness, what is it? Then there is nothing upon him. Or if he is ignorant, there is nothing upon him. And it is established in Sahih al-Bukhari from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her):
A group of people came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah, a group of people bring us meat, and we do not know whether they mentioned the name of Allah over it or not?" He said, "Mention the name yourselves and eat. Mention the name yourselves and eat."
. And this indicates that the mention of the name is necessary. But if we are ignorant whether he mentioned the name or not, then we eat, but we mention the name of Allah over our eating. Now, if I asked you, do you assert that all the slaughtered animals in front of us have had the name of Allah mentioned over them? The answer is no. But praise be to Allah, Allah has made it easy for us that what we are ignorant of—whether the name of Allah was mentioned over it or not—we eat and we mention the name. Our action is the eating; we mention the name over it. As for the slaughter, that is the action of others, and we are not obligated to ask about it. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good. A questioner says, this returns us to the issue of women...

The Shaykh : What?

The questioner : Women... chapters...

The Shaykh : Give the question.

The questioner : Okay, he says...The questioner :

The Shaykh : Yes
