The Story of the Disbelievers' Plot to Kill the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and His Migration with Abu Bakr
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : I will tell you the story of how the disbelieving polytheists of Quraysh were eager to kill the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). They were extremely eager to do so because he called to tawhid (the oneness of Allah), he called to worshipping Allah alone, he called to relying upon Allah, and he called to seeking help from Allah. He mocked these people who worshipped al-Lat, al-Uzza, Manat, Hubal, and other idols. He ridiculed their delusions. It is well known that they were people of the pre-Islamic age of ignorance, so those who disbelieved harbored in their hearts the pride of the pre-Islamic age. What is that? The pride of the pre-Islamic age. They wanted to eliminate the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). They consulted one another: "What shall we do? What shall we do with him?" The opinion was agreed upon that they would select ten young men from various Arab tribes and give each one a sharp sword, and they would strike Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) with a single blow from one man. At that point, his blood would be dispersed among the tribes, and Banu Hashim would not be able to demand retribution from the tribes. This was a plot, a great plot. In this regard, Allah says: [Al-Anfal 8:30] Read [Al-Anfal 8:30] Do you know what happened? It happened that these young men gathered and wanted to kill Muhammad, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), but Allah protected him. But Allah protected him from them. They gathered at his door intending to kill him, so he went out from among them while scattering dust over their heads and reciting the words of Allah the Exalted: "And We placed before them barriers and behind them barriers, and We veiled them over, so they could not see." However, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), despite his reliance upon Allah, his dependence upon Allah, and his attachment to Allah (Mighty and Majestic), did not neglect the beneficial means. He did not neglect the beneficial means. He migrated to Madinah with his companion Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). He hid in a cave known as the Cave of Thawr, which is well known in Makkah. He hid in the cave for three nights until the search for him ceased. Do you know what Quraysh offered as a reward for bringing the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)? Do you know what it was?
The student: One hundred camels.
The Shaykh : They set the reward.
The student: One hundred camels for whoever brings the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him).
The Shaykh : And another hundred for whoever brings Abu Bakr. Two hundred. Allahu Akbar. Because there was nothing to prevent it. Two men in a cave, and people from Quraysh, strong young men with keen sight and hearing. If What did the Messenger say to him? He said to him: Sahih al-Bukhari 3615 O Allah, be with us. He said: Sahih al-Bukhari 3653 Allahu Akbar. And I ask you now, what is your opinion of this? What is your opinion of two men, with Allah being the third of them? Can anyone harm them? No, by Allah, never. If you are with Allah, Allah will be with you. [An-Nahl 16:128] Then the search ceased, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his companion Abu Bakr emerged until the migration was completed, and praise be to Allah. This is not the place to elaborate on that, because we want something more important than this.
And [remember, O Muhammad], when those who disbelieved plotted against you
وإذ يمكر بك الذين كفرواto restrain you or kill you or evict you [from Makkah]. But they plan, and Allah plans. And Allah is the best of planners.
ليثبتوك أو يقتلوك أو يخرجوك ويمكرون ويمكر الله والله خير الماكرينThe student: One hundred camels.
The Shaykh : They set the reward.
The student: One hundred camels for whoever brings the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him).
The Shaykh : And another hundred for whoever brings Abu Bakr. Two hundred.
