The Meaning of the Saying of Allah the Exalted: "O you who believe, fear Allah and let every soul look at what it has put forward for the day after, and fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do," and an Explanation

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Then we speak about what is at the end of the surah
O you who have believed, fear Allah. And let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow
[Al-Hashr 59:18]
. "Fear Allah" is a command to have taqwa (mindfulness of Allah). And we mentioned taqwa last night; at the beginning of this night, is taqwa?
The student: That you make a protection between you and the punishment of Allah.

The Shaykh : Well done. That you make a protection between you and the punishment of Allah. So by what is this protection? By doing the commands and avoiding the prohibitions.
And let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow
[Al-Hashr 59:18]
That is, for the Day of Resurrection. Look at what you have put forward? Do not look at what you have put forward for your day in this world. But the important thing is to look at what you have put forward for yourself in the Hereafter.
And let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow
[Al-Hashr 59:18]
Is it "wa-l-tanẓur" (with a sukun on the lam) or "wa-li-tanẓur" (with a kasrah)?
The student: The sukun.

The Shaykh : With a sukun on the lam? Good. The lam here is for the command, and the lam of command is with a kasrah. Allah the Exalted said:
Let a man of wealth spend from his wealth
[At-Talaq 65:7]
. The lam is the lam of command with a kasrah, so why was it with a sukun in His saying:
and let every soul look ولتنظر
? The answer is: because it came after the waw, and the lam of command, when it comes after the waw, is with a sukun. Brother, answer. Do we say "wa-l-tanẓur" and not "wa-li-tanẓur"?
The student: The lam.

The Shaykh : Yes.
The student: Wa-l-tanẓur.

The Shaykh : Wa-l-tanẓur, why did we make it with a sukun when the lam of command is with a kasrah?
The student: The lam of command is for negation.

The Shaykh : No, it appears you were daydreaming. Rest, please. Why did we make it with a sukun when it is with a kasrah? Brother. You.
The student: Because the waw preceded it.

The Shaykh : Yes, exactly. It came after the waw. May Allah bless you. And it is with a sukun also when it comes after the fa. And it is with a sukun also when it comes after thumma. Allah the Exalted said:
then let him cut ثم لْيقطع
Complete it.
and let him see: will his effort remove that which enrages [him]?
[Al-Hajj 22:15]
Whoever should think that Allah will not support [Prophet Muhammad] in this world and the Hereafter - let him extend a rope to the ceiling
[Al-Hajj 22:15]
This is with a sukun because it came after the fa.
then let him cut ثم لْيقطع
This is with a sukun because it came after thumma.
and let every soul look ولْتنظر
This is with a sukun because it came after the waw.
So that they will deny what We have granted them, and they will enjoy themselves
[Al-'Ankabut 29:66]
And not "wa-li-yatamadda"? You are reading from the mushaf. Now the mushaf is in your hands; is it with a kasrah or with a sukun? Say.
The student: With a sukun.

The Shaykh : With a sukun
So that they will deny what We have granted them, and they will enjoy themselves
[Al-'Ankabut 29:66]
.
The student:
and let them enjoy themselves ولِيتمتعوا
.

The Shaykh : With a kasrah. Why was it with a kasrah when it is after the waw?
The student: This is the lam of causation.

The Shaykh : Because this is the lam of causation. Yes, may Allah bless you. Pay attention to the difference. Many people, and they are reciters and imams, we hear them say:
So that they will deny what We have granted them, and they will enjoy themselves
[Al-'Ankabut 29:66]
And this is a grammatical error that distorts the meaning, so it is not permissible. Rather, say
So that they will deny what We have granted them, and they will enjoy themselves
[Al-'Ankabut 29:66]
. Good.
This [Qur'an] is notification for the people that they may be warned thereby and that they may know that He is but one God
[Ibrahim 14:52]
. If I made a mistake in this, correct me. Please.
The student:
so that they may be warned by it ولِينذروا به
... .

The Shaykh : "Wa-li-yadh-dhiru" is the correct one. Yes, you treated the disease with a worse disease. Rest. Who knows the correct one, please.
The student: Wa-li-ya'lamu.

The Shaykh : Yes
that they may be warned thereby and that they may know
[Ibrahim 14:52]
. Why, when it came after the waw? Because this is the lam of causation. Rest. So know the difference between the lam of causation and the lam of command. And know that if you put the lam of causation in the place of the lam of command, or vice versa, then you have made a grammatical error that what? It distorts the meaning, it distorts the meaning.
O you who have believed, fear Allah. And let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow
[Al-Hashr 59:18]
That is, for the Day of Resurrection.
So if someone says: How did the Lord, Mighty and Majestic, say "for the day after" when it is far from him?
We said: It is possible that "the day after" is intended to mean what comes after your day, even if it is far
And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do.
[Al-Ma'idah 5:8]
