And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.

وما خلقتُ الجن والإنسَ إلا ليعبدون

[Adh-Dhariyat 51:56]

Not for the sake of enjoying the world and its comfort and developing it, for those who came before them developed it more than they did, and their messengers came to them with clear proofs, yet their development and their strength did not benefit them. Indeed, ‘Ad became arrogant in the land,

and said, "Who is greater than us in strength?"

وقالوا من أشد منا قوة

[Fussilat 41:15]

Did they not consider that Allah who created them was greater than them in strength?

أولم يروا أن الله الذي خلقهم هو أشد منهم قوة

[Fussilat 41:15]

Reflect, my brother, reflect, my brother,

Did they not consider that Allah who created them

So He began with the proof before the ruling.

⁽¹⁵⁾ As for 'Aad, they were arrogant upon the earth without right and said, "Who is greater than us in strength?" Did they not consider that Allah who created them was greater than them in strength? But they were rejecting Our signs. ⁽¹⁶⁾ So We sent upon them a screaming wind during days of misfortune to make them taste the punishment of disgrace in the worldly life; but the punishment of the Hereafter is more disgracing, and they will not be helped.

أولم يروا أن الله الذي خلقهم هو أشد منهم قوة وكانوا بآياتنا يجحدون فأرسَلنا عليهم ريحاً صَرصراً في أيام نِحسات

[Fussilat 41:15-16]

A wind, the gentlest and lightest of things, Allah sent it upon them. Allah sent the wind upon them, and it destroyed them, so that nothing was seen of them except their dwellings. Where is their power?
