The Shaykh : I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan. Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, when He mentioned the matter of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) warning the Quraysh with a thunderbolt like the thunderbolt of 'Aad and Thamud, He clarified what happened to 'Aad and what happened to Thamud. So He, (Exalted and Majestic is He), said: [Fussilat 41:15] This is a particle of condition and specification. As for it being a particle of condition, it is because it has a condition and a consequence. And as for it being a particle of specification, it is because it is used in specification as well: [Al-Layl 92:8] So it is a particle of condition and specification. [Fussilat 41:15] "They became arrogant" means that arrogance struck them. The sin and ta' letters were used for emphasis, meaning they became arrogant with great arrogance. And His saying: This is not a restrictive attribute, but rather a revealing attribute, because all arrogance in the land is without right. Arrogance does not divide into two categories, but it is one category; all arrogance is without right. Such a restriction is called a revealing attribute, meaning it reveals what came before and clarifies its reality. So what is the reality of arrogance? That it is without right. And the truth is the opposite of falsehood, and falsehood is either in a report or in a request [as is]. As for falsehood in a report, it is that it is a lie. And as for falsehood in judgment, it is that it is injustice. And His saying, the Exalted: [Al-Hajj 22:62] includes both matters: it includes their claim that these are gods, and this is a false claim. And it includes their worship of these gods, which is injustice and oppression, where they equate the created with the Creator. meaning that this was part of what they became arrogant with.
