My wallet was stolen today, and it contained an amount of money designated for zakah. Does the zakah obligation fall away with the loss or theft of this amount, or is it obligatory for me to pay it?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward you. He says:The questioner : My wallet was stolen today, and it contained an amount of money designated for zakah. Does the zakah obligation fall away with the loss or theft of this amount, or is it obligatory for me to pay the zakah?

The Shaykh : This money that the questioner set aside for zakah has not left his ownership; it is still in his possession and has not reached its rightful recipient, such as the poor or others. Therefore, if the money a person has set aside for zakah is stolen, it is obligatory for him to pay its equivalent. Perhaps paying its equivalent will be a cause for Allah to restore to him what was stolen from him. Yes.
