Sometimes a person gets a cold while fasting and may swallow some of his saliva. Is there anything required of him? Is his fast valid?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Sometimes a person gets a cold while fasting and may swallow some of his saliva while fasting. Is there anything required of him? Is his fast valid?

The Shaykh : If a fasting person swallows his saliva, his fast is not invalidated by it. No one can say that a fasting person breaks his fast by swallowing his saliva, because avoiding swallowing saliva is very difficult, and the Shari'ah does not impose such a thing. Therefore, we say: if a fasting person swallows his saliva, his fast is valid and is not invalidated by it.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
