The questioner : Also, the listener has another question in which he asks: What is the ruling on one who collects his saliva and then swallows it during the day of Ramadan?

The Shaykh : He should not do that, because a person should leave nature as Allah created it. If you collect this saliva and then swallow it, you have prevented it from its usual course. Some scholars have said that it is disliked to collect one’s saliva and swallow it. Therefore, you should not do that. However, you may rinse your mouth if your mouth becomes dry and speaking becomes difficult for you, or if it is hard for you to speak; you may rinse your mouth so that the mouth becomes moist, because the mouth is not a place where reaching it breaks the fast.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : I mean that food or drink reaching it does not break the fast.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes, indeed.
