The questioner : Your Eminence, the Shaykh, you mentioned, may Allah preserve and protect you, that Allah the Mighty and Majestic and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did not mention where Allah the Mighty and Majestic was before the creation of the heavens and the earth. What is the authenticity of the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when he was asked where Allah was before creating the heavens and the earth, and he said:
He was in a void كان في عماء
or as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said?

The Shaykh : I say: The calamity lies in poor understanding or a lack of verification in transmission. We did not state that Allah and His Messenger did not mention where Allah was before the creation of the heavens and the earth. We said that Allah and His Messenger did not mention that Allah rose above the Throne before the creation of the heavens and the earth, or that He did not rise above it. This is what we say. As for before the creation of the heavens and the earth, as the brother mentioned, it came in the hadith that He was in a void, with air above Him and air below Him, meaning there were no created things. But we do not say: before the creation of the heavens and the earth, we do not say that He rose above the Throne or that He did not rise above it, because we have no knowledge of that. If someone has been informed by Allah and His Messenger of knowledge regarding this matter, then we are human beings who do not encompass everything. Therefore, he should follow what is established for him from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
