Are sins a trial from Allah, and what is the meaning of His saying: “And We will test you with evil and with good as a trial”?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : If a Muslim falls into a sin, such as smoking or listening to songs, is this a trial from Allah? And what is the meaning of His saying:
And We test you with evil and with good as trial ونبلوكم بالشر والخير فتنة
[Al-Anbya 21:35]
?

The Shaykh : Yes, it is undoubtedly a trial from Allah the Exalted. But Allah has given you a choice and a mind, so you can repent to Allah from what you have disobeyed. Repent to your Lord, seek help from Allah, and you will find the matter easy, if Allah wills.
As for His saying:
And We test you with evil and with good as trial ونبلوكم بالشر والخير فتنة
[Al-Anbya 21:35]
. This is what Allah decrees for the servant. If Allah decrees for him health, wealth, children, wives, and palaces, this is good. It is a trial. That is why Sulayman (peace be upon him) said:
This is from the favor of my Lord to test me whether I will be grateful or ungrateful هذا من فضل ربي ليبلوني أأشكر أم أكفر
[An-Naml 27:40]
. If Allah decrees for you calamities and illnesses, this is also a trial, for Allah the Exalted to test you: will you be patient, or will you be discontent?
This is the meaning of His saying:
And We test you with evil and with good as trial; and to Us you will be returned. ونبلوكم بالشر والخير فتنة وإلينا ترجعون
[Al-Anbya 21:35]
.
